The temperature is getting warmer in our corner of the country. The flowers are in bloom and the grass is starting to turn green. That means it’s time to tackle some of those spring clean-up chores before they get out of control. It’s not just the yard and garden that need spruced up. There are maintenance chores to do to get ready for spring inside of the house, too.
1. Changing your air filters. One of the first things you should do to get ready for spring is to change the filters in your cooling system and your electronic air filter, if you have one. These filters can get clogged with dust and allergens that can get recirculated throughout your home when you start using your cooling system.
2. Fill any gaps around your windows and doors. Spring is also the time to inspect your windows, doors and foundation for any gaps that could be allowing access to your home to mice, bats and other critters. A can of spray foam and a tube of caulk will fill most gaps that you find.
3. Clean your refrigerator coils. That dust that builds up around the coils at the back of your refrigerator can shorten your appliances lifespan as well as cause it to use more energy, making it cost more to operate.
